Scientific Analysis of the Advantages of Studying and Working in Small Groups
This text will discover and explain some of the scientifically proven benefits of studying and/or working in small group environments. These benefits are in respect to the psychological, emotional and physical state of the students, this means that it is more than just about being present in the class and only following instructions. It is about having brand new perspectives and ideas flowing through the atmosphere that provides the students with a new and exclusive learning environment, where they can feel comfortable while interacting with these people. The next points are some of the scientific findings we have found in our research:
“Small group study and group discussions at academic institutes provide individuals with an educational learning opportunity where students are required to assess, process and react to unfamiliar values and ideas.”
“Effective small group work is about having the right attitudes, having team building skills and learning about each other's culture. Which can lead the students gaining a deeper insight on different topics surrounding their interests, as well as group and team interaction and dynamics.”
“Members that attend group activities tend to develop an idea of time management skills to be more punctual, flexible and active. This is due to the fact that they have a better sense of self-esteem while in a smaller group, as their opinions will always be heard.”
“The importance of small group-study participation is contributing to the development of the individual’s personality and refining of social-interaction skills, a significant socialisation experience for the student. The issue of socialisation might be a critical factor in situations when students might not know many people in a newly assembled class, potentially using group-work participation as an important activity to facilitate friendships. “
“Being in small groups also allows for the students to not get overwhelmed with the fact that there are too many students around them, as well as at the same time exposing the students to a diverse range of viewpoints, in an amount that won't potentially intimidate them.”
Finally, this will be the first of a series of analysations that we will be releasing and discussing here on our blog. These statements are highly related to our academy here at ITM Thai Hand Berlin, as we deliver our Thai massage courses in small, intimate classes, where they can feel supported by each other, because teamwork and communication are key factors when giving and receiving in Thai Massage as everyone can learn from one another from their feedback, as well as where the teacher can still be focused on every single student. Therefore we keep our classes at a limited number of places, so that our students have the best learning experience possible.
